Overview

Live news wires, de-duplicated and set newest first.

Newsy is a live wire console. It reads the publishers' own RSS feeds, drops the repeats and sets what is left newest first, across five desks: Today, Business, Intl, Middle East and USA. It first asks for the site's pre-built wire file, feed.json; when that is missing or more than half an hour old, it reads its own eleven feeds through this site's own proxy — BBC World and BBC Middle East, The New York Times, NPR, DW, Al Jazeera, WSJ Markets, CNBC, Fortune, The Hill and Politico. A wire whose newest story is more than a week old is counted as stale and its stories are left off. It reads again every 100 seconds while the tab is open, and a background tab that has missed a read catches up when it is looked at again.

A repeat is caught on the headline itself, with punctuation and the outlet's own suffix stripped, so one story carried by several wires shows once. Every figure in the snapshot — stories, wires answering, the past hour, duplicates dropped — is counted from what the page has just read. The pulse counts the words and two-word phrases the desk is carrying, once per story, and links each to live searches on X, Instagram and TikTok. NewsyProbe runs eighteen Google News searches in one press and keeps a cache in your browser, so a second run shows only what is new; the RSS explorer reads nineteen Google News feeds against a keyword, and will test a feed address you paste if the proxy allows its host.

What Newsy does not do: it does not rewrite the news, rank it by anything but the clock, or hold the articles. A headline opens to the summary its feed carried and a link to read it at the publisher. The site's other news desks are in the News room.
