A drawn atlas of the entire planet you can pan and zoom like a chart table: 242 countries, their rivers, lakes and 1,251 cities, engraved from the Natural Earth survey and rendered live on a canvas. Click any country and the desk fills with its real figures — population, GDP, capital, ten World Bank indicators ranked against every country that reports them, and an area computed on the sphere from the very polygons you are looking at.
Live wires complete it: search any place on earth — a village, a mountain, a neighbourhood — and fly to it with its population and elevation; click any point to read its measured height, the weather and the air there this minute, and the week’s earthquakes nearest to it; draw a transect between any two clicks for a hundred-point terrain profile of everything in between; and lay the moving line of night across the whole world. No key, no account, no tiles — nothing about you leaves the page.

Where every figure comes from.
The survey is embedded
The drawing is a quantized extract of Natural Earth (1:50m, public domain) — country polygons, rivers, lakes and 1,251 populated places — shipped with the page and rendered by this site’s own canvas engine. No tiles, no map provider, no third-party requests to look at the world. Population and GDP figures are Natural Earth’s published estimates, shown with their years.
Areas are computed, not copied
Every country’s area is calculated spherically from the same polygons the map draws — so the figure and the shape can never disagree. Density and GDP-per-head are derived from those two honest numbers and say so. The scale bar is true at the centre of your view, because a Mercator chart’s scale is a local fact, not a global one.
Four live wires, all keyless
Place search is Open-Meteo’s geocoder; point heights and the hundred-point transect are its elevation service; the conditions at a clicked point are its forecast and air-quality services; the week’s earthquakes are the USGS feed, magnitude 2.5 and up. All public, all keyless, all fetched browser-direct. Their figures are printed as their own, and when a service will not answer the page says so instead of inventing.
The drawn line has a resolution
A 1:50m survey holds its shape to country and regional zoom; pushed to street level the engraving honestly runs out of line — that is the data’s edge, not hidden behind someone else’s tiles. Coordinates are quantized to a thousandth of a degree (about 110 m). Nothing about you leaves the page: no location permission is asked, and searches go only to the geocoder you invoked.
How life is there, and where it ranks
Ten indicators per country come from the World Bank’s open data — life expectancy, infant mortality, births per woman, urban share, internet use, adult literacy, homicides, military and education spending, CO₂ per head. Each carries the year that country last reported it, because the vintages genuinely differ, and each carries its place in the full ranking, worked out in the page from the same table. Ranks read “Nth highest”, never best or worst: this page does not get to decide whether more military spending is good news. A country the World Bank does not carry gets no block rather than a grid of dashes.
The sun is arithmetic
The night overlay asks nothing of any server. The sun’s position is computed here, in the page — the terminator is the line where its altitude is zero, and the small marked point is where it stands directly overhead right now. The method is the standard low-precision solar position, checked against both solstices and against the equation of time at the March equinox; it is accurate to a hundredth of a degree, far finer than a line drawn on a chart a thousand kilometres to the pixel.
